If SMS was successfully sent to your number then this is the message with got from the modem.

You can always run the web server in debug mode, try sending the alert and check out the communication with the modem in the debug log. You are also welcome to post it here so that users and we can have a look

Based on the output the communication with the modem is OK and the modem tells us it received the message.

Please verify your modem and if that is ok, then please check with your mobile operator

Called Zoom tech support found the Zoom diagnostics said the modem was on com4 instead of com5 (win cp). Changed win modem to use com4. Able to send sms message from zoom to my cell manually. tried to have serverscheck send gsm sms alert thru manual test after reconfiguring to com4. Still nothing????

Here is debug.txt > Now what to try?

Ok, turned off serverscheck web service. Opened zoom modem gui and was able to sucessfully send a sms text to my cell phone. Serverscheck configuration is still not correct. But zoom gsm modem is working with win 2008 and able to manually send sms alerts.
  • AdministratorAdministrator
This means that another application is using the COM port 4 and that ServersCheck can't connect to it. Serial communications are exclusively opened by one application. Only the first app connecting to it will have access. You need to close the other apps and then try again. Unfortunately there is no way of telling which app uses that port.
  • airronairron
I have uninstalled the zoom sw. Reinstalled and serverscheck is still using com4 according to the modem.log file that I located in serverscheck. Win device mgr set mobile connector to com5. gsm sms alerting is set to com5.

    2) Did it ever work before? If so, then what has been changed since last time it worked?
  • airronairron
yes it worked, did you see the attached zoom log? zoom modem is sending out gsm messages. serverscheck is not forwarding the sms alerts?

what has changed is I bought (3) gateway sensors from you last month. I configured the gw and connected humidity, temp & power sensors to gw. Now all those work fine but my gsm modem stopped sending out alerts. email alerts are working, but not the sms part.
  • AdministratorAdministrator
the sensors have nothing to do with it. these are hardware components and that sit on your network and don't depend on the software.

If sms alerting worked before and does no longer work, then something in the software must have changed:

    1) upgrade server

    2) upgrade software

    3) new install

    4) modem moved to a new usb port

    etc...

No zoom log was added in previous comments; only ServersCheck logs. Do you have modem log entries from when the setup was running fine?

Knowing what changed allows to see how it can be brought back to a previous known working state.

May I kindly ask to reply to the questions as the last post unfortunately doesn't make any sense to us.

We want to know what configuration worked previously so that we can return to that configuration. The modem.log generated by ServersCheck might help in that respect.

    Thank you
  • airronairron
Attempting to show the win 2008 server modem config that server sees modem and can use modem. Serverscheck sw was only upgraded after I could not get the gsm alerting to work. So I am now at latest version. Serverscheck modem.log is the zoom modem information that I previously posted. No other apps are using the modem com port as only serverscheck is installed on this server. it has no other purpose.
  • AdministratorAdministrator
Before doing the ServersCheck software upgrade, did the gsm alerting ever work or did it never work?
  • airronairron
    yes, it worked before.
  • AdministratorAdministrator
    OK. Good.

What was changed on the system/configuration between the time it worked and it no longer worked?

just noticed in win 2008 uninstall program screen shows only installed version of serverscheck as 9.0.15? do I need to uninstall and reinstall or repair to get the correct version > 10.1.0?

I don't think this would have anything to do with the gsm issue but still it should be registering the correct version.

No you don't need to do that. Indeed 9.0.15 was the one initially installed - upgrades don't change the version number of the original installer - upgrades don't install new software but upgrade it. But this is off topic in respect to the issue we are discussing here

    system had no changes.

it must have otherwise it wouldn't stop working unless you have a hardware failure on your system which based on your tests you don't have.

so we don't have a known good state to go back too :-(

let's start all over again from scratch. we know the modem works based on your tests.

let's do it step by step.

what com ports is the modem listed on in Windows in the Device Manager. If your modem has more than one com port for the modem listed, then please provide the descriptions next to the modem.

Win device mgr reports mobile connector (gsm modem) is using com5.

See below email, they recommending changing the Win com5 > com4. Then serverscheck alerting has to change as well.

    To you agree?

Just got email from zoom modem techs:

The software always default to COM 4 and you cannot change this in the software but the COM can be easily changed in Windows in the properties of the modem from Com 5 to Com 4

"The software always default to COM4" -> I assume this is the Zoom software and not ours?

If it is on COM5 then it may mean that something else is using COM4.

Set it in our software to COM5 (if that still is the port shown in the Windows Device Manager).

When that is done then make sure that no Zoom software is running and that all ServersCheck services are stopped.

Then run the s-alerts.exe from the command prompt in debug mode and send us the debug output after letting it run for one minute (allows us to check if modem communications works)

why am I getting service name is invalid?
  • airronairron
Sorry my earlier post with reference to Com4 was my mistake. I updated the alert sms back to com5. Win device mgr and Serverscheck alert sms is now at com5.
  • AdministratorAdministrator
Can you send us the debug output once it is set to COM5?

    Thank you
